Marie Basilede Laurent born in September 1823 to Joseph and Julia Laurent, Marie came into the world at a time when Louisiana was still shaping its identity.
At the tender age of 15, Marie embarked on a new chapter of her life by marrying Nicholas Galatas on August 5, 1839, in St. Tammany, Louisiana. Together, they raised a large family of six sons and five daughters, nurturing them with love and resilience amidst the challenges of the era.
Marie’s story is one of strength and longevity. She lived a full and rich life, spanning 88 years, until she peacefully passed away on June 2, 1912, in her hometown. Her legacy lives on through the generations, a testament to the enduring spirit of our family roots in Louisiana.
